Started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in NYC in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, it has become a global movement that has engaged over 30,000 organization worldwide. It is observed each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
Following the 2 biggest shopping events of the year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable giving season.
Utilizing social media and the generosity of people, it encourages small acts of kindness that can make a difference in everyone’s community. Whether you volunteer your time or make an online donation, you are coming together with others to celebrate and encourage giving.
Just check out their website GivingTuesday.org and Facebook page for all the details.
I realize the day is coming to a close soon, but you can always follow them to learn about next year’s Giving Tuesday. Its also not too late to still make a donation to your favorite local charity. Most, if they have Facebook pages, have probably sent out a link for donations.
Or better yet, don’t just give on one specific day, find out how you can make a difference during the rest of the year.
