I have always loved the after Christmas sales on cards, wrapping paper and ornaments. Everything is reduced so low, that it’s a great time to stock up, which I do every year. But as I also do every year at this time, I cannot remember what I stocked up on last December and therefore don’t have a clue what I still need to buy.
Each year I tell myself that I will take an inventory and made a detailed list of everything that I am storing away for the next year, but each year, I never follow through. So it is definitely like opening Pandora’s box when I get out the Christmas stuff.
As I am out shopping, I come across the prettiest cards, gift bags, tags, wrapping paper, home décor items and ornaments. I stop myself from buying, until I can get everything out and check to see what I need.
Adding even more confusion this year, we moved in August. I remember thinking I was so organized as I packed everything for the move. But the Christmas items were already stored in boxes and totes, which we just moved as they were.
I brought everything from the garage into the house and just peeked into the top box, which to my delight, held the Christmas cards that I purchased last year after Christmas. I am one happy Grammy, as I can start working on getting my cards ready to mail and am relieved that is one less thing I need to buy.
I also seem to be pretty stocked up on wrapping paper, gift bags and boxes. I have really gotten into the printed boxes that you just need to tie a ribbon around and slap on a sticky label. What a timesaver, especially for the kiddos who open everything in seconds flat. I have definitely lowered my gift wrapping standards over the years.
Later this week I will check out the ornaments and home décor items (candles, ceramic gingerbread houses and knick knacks). Its going to be fun decorating the new house after having lived in a townhouse for the past 6 Holidays.
Does anyone else forget what they have packed away from year to year? I think I am going to make a New Years’ resolution to create that inventory list this year as I pack things away and stick it to the December 2016 calendar page so I will be better prepared at this time next year.
